Mourners paid their respects to the late local youth leader who was shot dead on Thursday by members of a drug gang in his neighborhood. He was a known activist fighting for the rights of local people against big businesses involved in urban transformation of the neighborhood. The gang is allegedly supported by the police as a means of suppressing local activists struggling against urban transformation and displacement of locals by a web of construction businesses, real-estate businesses and government actors involved in urban development.
